Students who score high in their university placement tests or who have met the course enrollment requirements are offered College Algebra course. This course lays the groundwork for future advanced mathematics, science, engineering, and computer programming courses. Math courses build on each other like layers and require solid foundations to be able to move ahead in one’s education. The material covered in the course may vary based on the institution in which the course is offered as well as the discretion of any given Instructor. Students are encouraged to inform our tutors on any variance or specificity in the course which they have enrolled in. College Algebra can be seen as an accelerated review of 2 years’ worth of high school math covered over the course of a semester.
How FPLA administers the course: personalized for YOU.
FPLA offers a customized one-on-one tutoring program that allows students to focus on their areas of weakness and to develop their skills. Students may feel like their lectures pass them by and fly right over their heads. One-on-One tutoring allows us to meet a student’s needs on the individual level and to find the reasons why certain concepts may not be clicking with them. We will follow up with students and contact them in regards to their performance. We will also receive feedback from students and consider how we can improve the experience for them as well as anyone else at Full Potential. After the initial assessment, you can expect your tutor to review the exam you previously took on your previous practice test. Besides this, we our tutors constantly receive feedback from students and take note of what students need to cover on the course, based on what their course syllabus requires. We also focus on how to help you based on your personal weaknesses and needs. Your feedback can only improve your experience here at Full Potential Learning Academy. Our goal is to offer an enjoyable and fruitful experience that will give you the most out of our services.
If there is any specific need that we need to take into account or any issues with the session, you may also contact our office of admission at 1-833-Pro-TUTR.
Below you will find a tentative syllabus for a College Algebra course we can offer if you need to learn the material for a placement exam, or an exam taken for credit.

This course is a college level class covering College Algebra. This is a pre-requisite for taking more advanced courses such as Pre-Calculus Algebra and Trigonometry. Mastering various topics covered in College Algebra, expertise in application and earning a letter grade A in College Algebra course are essential to succeed. A passing grade i.e. letter grade greater than B is essential to successfully enroll in higher level mathematics and science courses, since mathematics is a cumulative topic.
Assignments and Grading: This course will have assignments for homework that may be graded at the instructor’s discretion. These activities will give students a sense for their mastery of the material.
Attendance: We have a general attendance policy. If a class is missed without alerting our admissions office, a cancellation fee will be charged. If you anticipate an absence, please alert our office 24 hours in advance to request a reschedule or cancellation without charge. Email the class cancellation notice to smedia@fullpotentialtutor.com . You may also call or text 305-826-1896.
Classroom Etiquette: Please be in the virtual classroom on time and pay attention to the instructor. Feel free to interact with the tutor and ask any questions that may come up. If the instructor has not shown up on time, immediately contact our office at 305-826-1896. The following course structure is an example of what you can expect to find in the typical College Algebra course. It also functions as a tentative layout as a prep course for a college credit qualification that requires you to meet College Algebra standards.
Subject Schedule
Our tutoring program is typically on a block scheduled. We are willing to take into account any accommodations necessary. We are open Monday-Saturday, and with our online tutoring we are available from 8:00 AM till 9:00 PM EST. Enquire within for tutoring beyond our traditional hours of operation.
Our on-site tutoring hours are from 2:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m, but our online tutoring schedule is available outside of these times. Below are some of the topics covered in this course.
Integer Theory Foundation
This class typically begins with covering basic number theory, working with positive and negative numbers. Operations such as rational exponents, roots of integers, and factoring are covered to prepare students before starting with variables. Real and imaginary numbers will also typically be taught in this part of the class.
- Examples of concepts covered include:
- Simplifying roots using factor trees
- Factoring Polynomials and Trinomials into Binomials
- Understanding arithmetic operations in relation to the number line.
Solving Equations
Courses will move on to cover variables and solving single variable equations algebraically, and graphing. These concepts are combined in solving linear equations and inequalities graphically. This also introduces students to answering in interval notation.
Familiarity with graphing will facilitate understanding of functions. Functions will include evaluating the numerical values of a function and plotting a function on a graph, and modifying graphs using transformations. The skills learned in single variable equations are fundamental to doing well in the rest of the course and any future math course that you may take. Single variable equations are found throughout science, math, engineering, and life in general.
Examples of what we cover include:
- Understanding what equality means, and why operations we perform preserve equality.
- Understanding why we use opposite operations to isolate variables
- Why isolating variables will solve the equation
Functions and their Graphs
Functions begin with simple linear functions, but students will advance within the course to more complex functions such as quadratic functions. Quadratic functions are graphed and have their y-intercepts calculated using various strategies such as factoring and using the quadratic formula. Understanding graphing and being able to imagine a rough idea of what a given function will look like on a graph will facilitate a student’s success in math courses.
Examples of how to understand this lesson includes:
- Visualizing functions and recognizing parent functions
- How we can manipulate different functions.
- Graphing the functions using key points on the graphs.
- Being able to imagine what a linear function will look like on a graph.
Functions with Limited Domains
Students will be required to find the domain and range of rational function and graph them. Students will also perform operations with polynomial functions such as division and multiplication, and students will learn how to find the inverse of a given function. This section will expound on the interval notation that was previously taught with linear equations and inequalities, while considering any undefined values.
Graphing concepts then move on to exponential and logarithmic functions and using them to solve practical problems such as in calculating interest. End behavior and limits of graphs are of particular importance in Pre-Calculus Algebra and Calculus courses.
Examples of what our tutors will teach you:
- Identify when you have to worry about a limited domain
- Take note of how functions behave as they approach the undefined point (this will be important in future math courses)
- Distinguishing answers in ordered pairs from interval notation.
Solving Systems of Equations Graphically and Algebraically
Solving for variables advances to solving for problems that have 2 and eventually 3 variables using elimination and substitution. Students will need to be able to find the solutions of 2 variable systems of equations graphically, as well as identifying the relationship of the two linear equations.
Examples of what will be covered
- Learning elimination and substitution
- Identifying when a problem will be easier to solve using elimination or substitution
- Being able to identify whether there is a solution just by looking at the equation.
Late course content
The various conic sections of exponential multivariable equations may additionally be covered, in which various curves and their graphs are identified: ellipses, hyperbolas, and parabolas. Rotation of conic sections may also be covered in your course. These sections may or may not be included in your course depending on the institution or instructor. Conic sections are also taught in Pre-Calculus Algebra.
