Reason of Delay In This Year's Easter

Spring brings along sunshine, spring blossoms, bunnies, and cheers! Not to mention about decadent chocolates. Usually the spring vacation coincides with Easter. But this year, we will observe Easter at the end of April, a month later than usual. Have you ever wondered about this discrepancy?

Therefore, there is a reason behind it. Christmas falls on Dec. 25th every year. Unlike Christmas, The lunar cycle determines the Easter Sunday. In conclusion, we celebrate Easter on the first Sunday after the full moon on or after the vernal equinox.

This year the vernal equinox and the full moon falls on the same day,March 20, 2019. It deviates from the accepted traditional rule viz. the ecclesiastical full moon should be a day after vernal equinox. We will consider post vernal equinox full moon as the ecclesiastical full moon. The post vernal equinox full moon will fall on Friday April 19, 2019. Consequently, we will observe Easter Sunday on Sunday April 21, 2019. This is because the Sunday that follows the ecclesiastical full moon observed as the Easter Sunday.

Equinox means the equi = equal; nox = night, the day where length of the day and night is the same.
